Hailed as an “extraordinary world class ensemble” by Examiner.com, Ultra World X-tet combines jazz, world, experimental and contemporary concert styles in a pioneering fusion of East and West. A highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of Wise Dreams and Fables of the Sky, composed by Gary Schwantes with 16mm film projections by experimental filmmaker Craig Baldwin. The piece is a multisensory experience that reimagines Homer's epic,  The Odyssey.

Wise Dreams and Fables of the Sky is inspired by The Odyssey books IX-XII. This is the section of Homer’s epic where Odysseus, as a guest of the Phaeacians, recounts the ten-year period of adventures experienced on his zigzag voyage home following the Trojan War, circa 1200 B.C.

Book IX: The Earthly Realm, the Gods, the Trojan War and sacking Ismarus, Land of the Lotus Eaters, the Cyclops, a curse and a bitter prayer to Poseidon
Book X: Aeolus’ gift of wind, a tempest, massacre by the Laestrygonians, Circe’s Island 
Book XI: Hades, insights and wisdom from souls of the dead, Tiresias’ prophecy
Book XII: Odysseus and his remaining crew set a new course, the Sirens, Scylla, Charybdis, the Cattle of Helios, the final shipwreck, Odysseus alone on Calypso’s shore
